About a week ago Mistral presented the newest member of their international wave team: Jonas Ceballos. He rushed straight off to Fuerte and Lanzarote for the photo shoot, but by seriously stalking him we managed to get some comments from Jonas about his move to one of the pioneering brands in windsurfing.
How did the deal with Mistral come about?
‘When I heard that Anders Bringdal had taken over Mistral I contacted him right away. I’ve known him for a long time and when he offered to sponsor me I didn’t need much time to think about it. It’s a dream to be part of a big company like Mistral and even better when your boss is a professional windsurfer like Anders. He has so much experience in this sport, I am sure I will learn a lot from him.’

Will you be involved in the development of the new boards?
‘I will be involved in the development of the wave boards, a step forward for me and I am very stoked that I can put my ideas on the table. I think with my and Anders’ experience we are going to bring out the best Mistral boards ever. The plan is to build some prototypes and start to get used to the boards, then train as much as possible to be ready for the world cup in Pozo this summer.’
Have you tried out the boards yet?
‘At the moment I have just had the opportunity to test the 82 liter twinzer at the photo shoot in Lanzarote. The wind was a bit light but we scored some massive waves; the board was a bit big for me but still I’m very stoked as the general feel was really good. The boards have a really nice shape and very good finishing. In about two weeks I will get my own boards, check back with me then for a proper impression!’
