The grand finale

Our buddy Max Matissek (famous for his hair, his part in the movie Gaining Grounds and of course his cooking), just boarded a plane in Bonaire, making his way home to Austria. On his last day on the flamingo island he managed to change his ticket, return his car, clean up his apartment, pack his bags, windsurf AND film Taty Frans revealing the winners of the umi Bonaire editing competition. This clip is on its way to Europe right now (Bonaire – Curaçao – Düsseldorf – Vienna) after which it will be handed over to a man in a dodgy alley wearing a raincoat, who will deliver it to the umi headquarters pronto. And then, hopefully this Thursday, you will see it too and know it all! Follow this site and our Facebook page for the latest!

Deadline for Vimeo hits: Friday 24 Feb

The umi Bonaire editing competition is nearing the end: this Friday we will count the Vimeo hits your videos got, add them to the ranking of Taty, Kiri and Tonky, the umi ranking and we will have our winners! The winners shall be announced next week, keep an eye on this space and our Facebook, as well as all windsurfing websites out there!

Deadline

Hi everybody, sorry for the delay in communicating the deadline for the umi Bonaire editing competition. We’ve been in contact with Tonky, Taty and Kiri as we obviously need their votes to decide who wins! Kiri is in Aruba doing some drag races (no joke!) and will be back on Bonaire soon to check the vids. He has seen some already and let us know he is very stoked. Taty is at St Barth at the moment for the Fun Cup and says ‘internet here is so shit that loading one movie takes hours to load’. He’ll be back later this week to check them all. As for Tonky: he’s on the case already, busy watching all your masterpieces!

Anyway, as soon as we get their feedback we’ll let you know and give you a shout regarding the deadline. We will give you at least a one week notice so you have some extra time to plug that video to the max!

WE. ARE. LIVE!

We are live! You are live! We received 36 entries from all around the world which can now all be checked out on our dedicated umi Bonaire editing competition Vimeo channel, so get on the case and start getting those clicks in!

Contrary to what was previously stated in the rules, we’ve decided to make the number of plays count towards the public vote (as opposed to the number of times your video has been liked on our Vimeo page and our Facebook). We think that this allows you to promote your vid a lot better so you can get as many clicks as possible and maximise your chance of winning one of our grand prizes. Good luck to all and enjoy the action!

Thank you!

A big thank you to all those who have entered the umi Bonaire editing competition, we received over 35 entries from all over the world! We’re currently busy uploading all of the vids to our Vimeo page, we’ll keep you posted as to when we’re ready to rock so you can watch them, like them and tell your friends and family to start clicking!

Win a Starboard, any Starboard…

The Flares are Starboard’s dedicated pro-level freestyle boards, designed and backed by the world’s best freestyle team, including Taty Frans and Kiri Thode. And better yet: they are the second prize in the umi Bonaire editing competition! According to Starboard these boards have an interesting blend of riding characteristics: very quick to accelerate and compact in both aerial and sliding manoeuvres, with fast racing rockerlines and new squared off tails for a sharper release. As you may have seen while editing, the boards pop easily and carve and respond quickly. With the small freestyle fin, the thick tail and centered straps these boards require a good freestyle skill-level and a vertical riding style.

Now the people at Starboard understand that even though you like to edit freestyle clips, you may not all be freestyle specialists. Maybe you’d much rather win a super fast freeracer, a quadfin waveboard or a classic freerider? No problem there, if you win, you can choose any board from the 2012 range. SWEET! Now get back to your Final Cut Pro/Windows Movie Maker/Pinnacle Studio/iMovie and make us proud!

Kontiki Beach Club

With the first videos in our mail box, let’s have a look at where you’re going to be staying if you win the comp! Bonaire, obviously, and you should have a good idea of Lac Bay and it’s conditions by now. But what about the place you are going to be sleeping?!

Kontiki Beach Resort is located just downwind from Lac Bay and has ‘a cosy cocktail bar, an award-winning restaurant, terrace with a refreshing breeze in an oasis of tranquillity and spectacular view of Lac Bay lagoon…’ You and your friend/father/mother/girl/grandma/uncle are going to stay in one of the studios or apartments, with breakfast included as well as the view. To wet your appetite here’s a few pics of the place. Now get back to work and make sure you win it!

New deadline + changed voting system

With the slight delay of the uploads of the action clips and due to lots a reactions from contestants, we have decided to postpone the deadline for the umi Bonaire editing competition by one month. This way everybody gets a fair chance to come up with the best action video they can, and a shot at winning one of our great prizes.

The new deadline for the submission of your video into the comp will be 1 January 2012. This gives everyone at least two months to make a sick video and send it to us. For the details on sending the finished vids please check About the comp on top of this page.

We’ve also slightly changed the voting system so that the clips that are up earlier don’t have an advantage over the clips that might be sent in last minute. After the deadline we will put your videos up on our special Vimeo channel and publish them on the umi Facebook page. The number of likes each video has on Vimeo and the umi Facebook page will be taken as the ‘public vote’. The other two votes still come from the riders (1) and the umi crew (1). That’s all for now, good luck!
